Market futures steady as tech earnings, Fed decision, and storm disruptions shape the week
U.S. stock futures hovered near flat early Monday as investors prepared for a heavy week of big-tech earnings and a Federal Reserve rate decision, while a major winter storm snarled travel and fresh trade threats boosted demand for safe havens like gold.

U.S. stock futures were little changed early Monday as markets headed into a packed week featuring major technology earnings and a Federal Reserve decision on interest rates. After a strong run earlier in the month, recent sessions have been choppy as investors weigh geopolitical uncertainty and shifting trade rhetoric against still-resilient corporate results.

Gold extended its surge and pushed through the $5,000-per-ounce mark in futures trading, highlighting a broader move toward perceived safe-haven assets. Treasury yields eased modestly, and bitcoin traded below the prior week’s levels after a weekend dip, adding to the sense that risk appetite is being tested rather than collapsing.
Severe winter weather remained a dominant practical factor for the start of the week. Flight disruptions piled up across several days, with a large number of cancellations reported from Saturday through Monday morning. Major airports along the East Coast were among the hardest hit as heavy snow and difficult conditions limited operations.
Trade policy uncertainty also returned to the foreground. Over the weekend, President Donald Trump criticized a Canada–China agreement and threatened steep new tariffs on imports from Canada, adding another variable for companies trying to plan supply chains and pricing in a year already marked by political and economic tension.
In company news, shares of USA Rare Earth were moving sharply higher after the company announced a deal involving new federal funding and additional financing. The development reflects the ongoing push to strengthen domestic supply chains for critical minerals and advanced manufacturing.
