Shelton turns the match after a slow start
Ben Shelton recovered from losing the opening set to defeat Casper Ruud 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 and move into the Australian Open quarterfinals. After settling down, Shelton leaned on aggressive serving and frequent net approaches to flip momentum and close the match in four sets.
With the win, Shelton advanced to face Jannik Sinner, setting up another high-profile meeting as the men’s draw tightens heading into the last eight in Melbourne.
Swiatek cruises, Sinner stays steady
On the women’s side, world No. 2 Iga Swiatek delivered a dominant performance against local qualifier Maddison Inglis, winning 6-0, 6-3. The result moves Swiatek into a quarterfinal clash with Elena Rybakina, one of the marquee matchups on the upcoming schedule.
Sinner, meanwhile, beat Luciano Darderi 6-1, 6-3, 7-6(2). While the third set tightened, Sinner maintained control in the tiebreak to book his place in the quarterfinals.
